The purpose of this lecture series was to present an eclectic body of knowledge which both supports and aids in the understanding of some basic fundamentals underlying muscle testing and muscle balancing. The primary topics of this three part presentation included: I) The Biomechanics of Muscle Testing, 2) The Ultrastructure of Skeletal Muscle Tissue, and 3) The Physiology of Lymphatic Congestion. The following discussion will highl ight the major points conveyed by these lectures.

This article from the early 80’s, though somewhat brief, gives some interesting details about the structures of the muscles, and some of the implications of general and local lymphatic congestion. It begs the question, “How do the Neurolymphatic reflexes effect both the general lymph circulation, and specific lymph circulation to a particular muscle.” I am not sure a reflex change in lymph flow can mechanically explain the instantaneous change in apparent muscle strength in terms of congestion, availability of oxygen and therefore loading of atp at the cell level. However, it is would be a great area to follow up for someone familiar with these details and their directly observable effects via muscle testing.
